IPD Measure

How IPD Measure, published by Pinnacle Parameters, handles information when you use the app.

Effective date — 2026-05-19

Summary

IPD Measure processes camera frames entirely on your device to estimate your pupillary distance and discards each frame after processing. No images, measurements, account information, or analytics are uploaded to any server. The only situation in which information leaves your device is when you make an in-app purchase: Google Play handles the transaction and forwards a purchase event (containing non-personal purchase metadata) to our server so we can validate your entitlement. See In-app purchases below.

Information we do not collect

We do not collect, request, or store any of the following:

The app does not include third-party analytics, advertising, attribution, or tracking SDKs of any kind. The Google Play Billing Library is integrated solely to process in-app purchases (see below) and is not used for analytics or tracking.

In-app purchases

IPD Measure offers an optional one-time in-app purchase to unlock additional features. Purchases are processed by Google Play Billing. We do not see, receive, or store your payment card details, billing address, Google account email, or any other identifying account information — that data is handled entirely by Google in accordance with Google’s privacy policy and terms.

After a purchase, refund, or subscription state change, Google sends a server-to-server event (a Real-time Developer Notification) to our backend so we can verify the purchase and grant or revoke the corresponding entitlement. These events contain only non-personal purchase metadata:

These fields do not contain your name, email address, Google account ID, device identifier, IP address, or any other directly identifying information. We retain this purchase metadata for as long as is necessary to validate the entitlement and to meet applicable accounting, tax, and consumer-protection obligations (typically up to seven years), after which it is deleted.

How the app works

When you tap “Start measuring,” the app requests permission to use your device’s front camera. With your permission, the camera feed is processed in real time on your device by Google MediaPipe’s face landmarking model. The model detects the position of your irises within each frame; the app uses your iris diameter (which is biologically consistent in adults) as a known scale reference to estimate the distance between your pupils.

Each frame is processed in memory and immediately discarded. No frame, image, or detection result is stored on disk, written to the photo library, transmitted over the network, or shared with any third party. The final estimated pupillary distance value is shown on screen during the session and is not retained after the app is closed.

Third-party software

The app is built using the following open-source libraries, all of which execute locally on your device and do not transmit data to remote servers in connection with the app’s core functionality:

A complete list of attributions and license types is available within the app under About → Open source notices.

External links

The app contains one optional external link on the result screen (“Buy me a coffee”) that, if tapped, opens buymeacoffee.comin your device’s default web browser. If you choose to follow this link, you will leave the app and visit a third-party website, which is governed by its own privacy policy and terms. We do not control and are not responsible for the privacy practices of buymeacoffee.com or any other third-party site.

The app may also open your device’s system settings (when prompted to grant or restore camera permission) and your default mail application (when contacting support). These actions do not transmit any information to us.

Camera permission

The app requires permission to use your device’s front-facing camera in order to detect your irises and estimate your pupillary distance. The camera is activated only after you explicitly accept the in-app disclaimers and tap “Start measuring.” The camera feed is never recorded, saved, or transmitted.

You can revoke camera permission at any time through your device’s system settings:

Without camera permission, the app cannot estimate pupillary distance, but no other data is collected or retained.

Children’s privacy

IPD Measure is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in jurisdictions where the GDPR digital-consent threshold applies). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Because the app does not collect any personal data from any user, no special children’s-data handling provisions apply.

GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA

For the on-device functionality of the app (camera processing and measurement) IPD Measure does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data, and Pinnacle Parameters does not act as a data controller, data processor, business, or service provider in relation to that activity.

For the purchase metadata described in the In-app purchases section above, Pinnacle Parameters acts as a data controller (and as a “business” under the CCPA/CPRA) with respect to the purchase token and associated non-personal purchase metadata received from Google. Google Play acts as an independent controller for the underlying account and payment information it processes on your behalf. We do not sell or share purchase metadata, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling. If you believe we hold purchase data relating to you and you wish to exercise rights of access or erasure, please contact us using the details below; we will need the order identifier or purchase token (available in your Google Play purchase history) to locate the record.

Data retention

No camera frames, measurements, or other on-device data are retained. Purchase metadata received from Google Play is retained for as long as is necessary to validate the corresponding entitlement and to comply with applicable accounting, tax, and consumer-protection obligations (typically up to seven years), after which it is deleted.

Your rights

For on-device app activity, there is no personal data for us to access, correct, export, or delete on your behalf. For purchase metadata, you may request access to or erasure of records we hold (subject to our legal retention obligations) by contacting us using the details below.

Medical disclaimer

IPD Measure provides an estimate for personal use only. It is not a medical device, is not certified, calibrated, or regulated as a medical instrument, and is not intended to diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition. The app should not be used to order prescription eyewear, complete medical or insurance forms, or as the basis for any health, vision, or safety-related decision. For an accurate, official pupillary distance measurement, please consult a licensed optician or eye-care professional.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes to the app, our practices, or applicable law. Any updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Because the app does not collect data, material changes to this policy are unlikely. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
